Beginners

  1. Want to run but don’t know where to start? Do you start every New Year with good intentions but struggle with motivation? Have you run previously but fallen off the running track? Do you sign up for expensive gym membership and wonder why within a month? Do you love the outdoors but find yourself stuck inside? Do you want to meet new people whilst doing something healthy? Do you sit all day and need to stretch your legs? If any of these ring true then our beginners group is for you!

With two successful years behind us our “Run Whatever Off” tailor made running programme will be back for its THIRD year in January 2016. This is a 12 week programme for any adult who wants to start to run, or is returning from time off running/exercise. We aim to create a friendly environment where people can improve their fitness and make new friendships. We follow a programme over 12 weeks which consists of 3-4 30 minutes of exercise a week. Starting with walking we build in running gradually until everyone is running comfortably for 30 minutes. The programme ends at the end of March with a 5km fun run. Led by qualified leaders in running fitness (LIRF) each week kicks off on a Monday evening with participants then given “homework” for the week. Park run on Saturday also offers another great opportunity to complete the weekly target. The programme is issued to everyone to record and track their progress. To ensure that “RWO” is accessible to as many as possible we only charge £10 for the 12 weeks. The programme is free to existing members many of express interest to both undertake it and help run it. Our members are great ambassadors for the club and have embraced the clubs ethos of helping and encouraging each other to achieve.

There are many current club members who have graduated through this programme and are proof that it works. These members had not run before and are now regularly competing in 5km and 10km events and some even completing half marathons.

We would love you to join us! Please don’t hesitate to contact us for further details or reserve your place.

                                                             Tom Stimson RWO Testimonial

I joined the RWO programme In January 2014; I had run a little bit before Christmas but not seriously or in any organised fashion. I was unfit and unhealthy. What struck me immediately was how friendly everyone was: Wyn and the team are superb motivators. I was also shocked at the thought that I could run 5k at the end of the twelve weeks. It works! The twelve week scheme is tailor made to help you build: both technique, strength and mental fortitude.

The early days were cold (running in the Winter can be hard) but stick with it and start to believe in yourself. I remember after a month we got up to running in seven minute bursts and it was still hard to believe that I did it. It has transformed my life and I now have completed numerous 5k and 10k races, including the Stilton Stumble and Mo Run. I am a regular at Parkrun. I hope to progress further next year.

The club is amazing, people are so friendly and supportive and it gives you a gateway to a new community of people in our area who like to run. My advice would be join in, get motivated and Stride forward. Oh and, in time, buy decent trainers and good socks…
