Palma Half & Stilton Stumble

Exciting international news to start us off this week. 11 Newark Striders were in Majorca for the Palma Half Marathon, and the 30 degree heat was a far cry from the wet weather back home, though not ideal for long distance running. First to finish was Mark Jackson 1:46:06, then Nige Driscoll 1:49:16, Steve Padgett 1:59:41, Cate Driscoll 2:02:47 and Andy Scott 2:15:36. Jacqui Jackson and Niceeta Padgett crossed the line together in 2:23:12 and Kath Scott, Gemma Latham, Tracey Partridge and Sarah-Jane Cobb finished as a group in 2:32:36/7. Unfortunately Jason Cobb had to retire after 4.5 miles but Striders family member Steve Latham did the 10K event, finishing in 1:28:36.

Back to Saturday and 3 Striders were in Lincolnshire for the 10K Gruesome Twosome pairs event. Stephen Tomlinson was one half of ‘Team Tomo & MG’ who completed the trail course in 1:20:23 whilst ‘The Hour Chasers’ Jenny Palmer and Anthea Moisey gave everyone a 6 minute head start, so their official result of 1:28:00 was in reality just over 1:22. Also on Saturday, Alison Carman and Jane Freshwater completed the Race for Life at the Lincoln Showground.

Returning to Sunday, and for the third year in four, the Stilton Stumble took place in pouring rain. Peter Davis was the first Strider to finish, 46:53 and first in age group. Stephen Tomlinson was in 10K action for the second time this weekend, crossing the line in 52:47 followed by Mary Swindles 57:20 and second in age group. Next were Stacey Atkins 59:44, Sara Webb 1:01:57 and Heidi Boby 1:20:03. Steve White travelled to Peterborough and lined up in the rain for the Perkins Great East Run but the event was ultimately cancelled due to a police incident.

Well done to everyone who ran this weekend.
