W/end 12th & 13th May

We’ll begin this weekend’s report on Saturday at Belvoir Castle where Becky Clift completed the challenging Tough Mudder Half with a group of work friends.

On to Sunday and there was quite a variety of Half Marathon action; let’s start in the north and work our way south. Richard Scott ran the Sunderland City Half Marathon, completing the course and pacing a friend in 1:40:50, whilst in Yorkshire Steve Martin, Chris Draper and Rob Wilkinson ran in the Leeds Half Marathon. Steve knocked 3 minutes off his time from the 2017 event, crossing the line in 1:45:40, a new PB for Chris by over 2 minutes finishing in 2:05:28 and Rob’s time was 2:27:17, a bit longer than it might have been as he stopped for a while at 12 miles to assist a collapsed runner. Onwards to Leicestershire where Jean-Louis Balestra was in the Bosworth Half Marathon; he covered the 13.1 miles in 1:44:30 (watch time, results not yet out).

Also in Leicestershire, six Newark Striders participated in the Clawson 10K, an undulating cross country event where good stile climbing technique really comes in handy. No official times yet, but here are the names and a few watch timings. Jon Rawson was first back in 57:19, Graham Welsh 57:57, David Taylor, Nick Harrison 1:13:06. Donna Beveridge, Becky Clift (fresh from the Tough Mudder) and husband Stuart completed the event as a walk as they intended.

Bev Hancock was at the Canicross Midlands Magic Mile, where she recorded a double dog assisted mile of 5:43, daughter Ella took family bragging rights though with 5:11 and neither could keep up with the winner, an amazing 3:44.9

In non racing news, Striders were involved in all aspects of the inaugural Newark Junior Parkrun as well as the usual variety of Sunday training runs and assisting with the staffing of the Newark Half Marathon stand at the county show. Well done everyone!
