Leicestershire Half Marathon

It’s great to have a packed weekend of racing to report on for the first time in a long time.Let’s start on Saturday at the Mallory Park Spring 5K & 10K Festival where Tom Jordan sped around the 5K circuit in 24:56 for his first PB of the weekend.On to Sunday, and first to Thoresby Park, where Striders were competing in the Longhorn over various distances. Jean Louis Balestra took on the mighty 60K Ultra and completed it in 6:27:44. Darren Mead ran the marathon, crossing the line in 3:56:10 and Brian Thompson completed the half marathon in 1:57:37. Gemma Latham and Ruth Tall were in the 10K race, finishing in 1:07:37 and 1:09:42 respectively.15

Newark Striders ran the Leicestershire Half Marathon, and there was a super atmosphere in the perfect weather at Prestwold Hall. Mark Jackson was first back and 3rd in age category, smashing his PB in 1:24:19. Gary Tasker crossed the line next in 1:34:05 followed by Nige Driscoll 1:38:47, Simon Palmer 1:40:13 and John Palmer 1:45:10. Cate Driscoll was first lady in for Striders, with 1:45:20 for a new PB and 3rd in age category. Also 3rd in age category was Peter Davis 1:48:28, then Steve Padgett 1:50:39, Steve White 1:52:17 and Graham Welsh 1:52:20. Ruth Mountstevens finished with a time of 1:54:58, followed by Tom Jordan who carved over 11 minutes off his PB and went sub 2 hours with 1:57:59. Sarah Fox-Clark recorded 2:00:13 in her first half marathon for 16 years. Noel Henderson retired from the race. Tim Marvin completed the race virtually in a time of 1:59:43.

Finally, back to where we started and the Mallory Park Spring Festival. Sunday was the 10K race, which David Cross ran in 39:06.Well done everyone!
